OutreachWe care about the community and are always searching for ways to minister to the needs of those with whom we come in contact. We meet on Tuesday nights for prayer and then visit in the community seeking to reach beyond the walls of our church to identify needs and then minister in the Lord's name. One major element is the church website, which provides information on past, current, and future activities. Pastoral CareOur Pastoral staff provide spiritual support through visits, prayer and counseling for those who are sick, grieving, and troubled with the cares and burdens of life. Advise one of the Pastors of your specific need or contact the church office at (256) 753-2704 to request support. DeaconThe Deacons are dedicated to serving the Church Body and to reaching out into the community. At Christmas fruit baskets are provided to our widows, widowers, nursing home residences, and those who are homebound. The Deacons along with the Brotherhood have provided wheelchair ramps to those in the community who require them. The Deacon of the week is available if one of the Pastors can not be contacted call (256) 753-2704 for this information. VanThe Church van is available to provide transportation to and from Church for those who do not have a vehicle, those who are medically unable to drive, or those who have difficultly seeing at night. Transportation is also available on election days. The van is also used by various organizations to transport people for Church related activities. BrotherhoodThe Brotherhood meets quarterly (January, April, July, and October) 3rd Monday night of meeting month at 6:30 PM in the fellowship hall. Food is usually provided. The program includes a short devotional. Discussions of current and upcoming activities i.e. handicap ramp construction and installation, mission projects, or service opportunities are covered. Our Brother sponsors a special offering for the Alabama Baptist Children's Home, this offering is taken on Father's Day. WMUThe Cindy Kennedy Women's Missionary Union (WMU) meets the 4th Thursday night at 6:30 PM in the fellowship hall. Refreshments are usually served. The program includes a short devotional followed by discussions of current and upcoming activities. The WMU sponsors the Lottie Moon Offering (Christmas timeframe) and the Annie Armstrong Offering (Easter timeframe). The past several years the established goals for these offerings has been met and exceeded. Children'sOur children are the Church of tomorrow and are very important to us. Our children's department is staffed with caring and capable workers. Much of the work with children is done through Sunday School (Sunday Morning) along with and Girl's Auxiliary (GA's) (Wednesday Night.) On Sunday night the children participate in AWANA's a Bibical based study activity. Our children are also very active in the children's choir. YouthThe youth program is very active. Monthly social events are planned and practically every month the youth are involved in some spiritual outreach. The youth engage in Bible study on Sunday and Wednesday nights at the church. Sunday SchoolOur Sunday school provides Bible study opportunities for all age groups. It is the primary outreach organization of the church. It is primarily through reaching out to the community that new families and individuals come to our church. We provide classes for age groups consistent with the need. Nursing HomePastors and members visit nursing homes where Church members are in residence. A Sunday school class is taught at the Arab Nursing Home each Sunday Morning. Deacons also provide fruit baskets to nursing home residents during the Christmas season. More frequent visits are made based upon need. NurseryThe church nursery is staffed by volunteers. It is available during scheduled services and if the need arises can be made available during special services. Cleanliness is one of our primary concerns. All toys, beds and other equipment in the Nursery are sanitized each time the rooms are used. This extra effort on the part of our workers will help keep your baby healthier and happier. If any problems occur while caring for your child during the service a worker will come and get you. You may be asked to come to the Nursery and help assess the situation.
In order to be aware of your child's individual needs, we ask that all parents complete an
enrollment card. Please answer all questions and give any additional information that we
may need to know in order to better care for your baby. Should you have a change of
address or phone number please notify the nursery worker the next time your child visits
the nursery. This will help us keep our records up to date.
Please wait at the door until a worker is able to take your baby and belongings from you. No one is allowed in the area with the babies except the authorized workers. Please give
your baby and diaper bag to the Nursery attendants. Also give the attendant any
information they may need to know in order to properly care for your child. If an
emergency arises you will be notified promptly.
Please do not bring your child to the Nursery if he/she is sick. Remember, other children will
be present, and they may become infected as well. Some signs of illness in a child are:
unusual fatigue or irritability, coughing, sneezing, runny nose and eyes, fever, vomiting,
diarrhea, inflamed mouth and throat, unusual drowsiness, loss of appetite, or hoarseness.
BereavementWhen anyone is scheduled to be buried in the adjoining cemetery, arrangements are made to open the Church fellowship hall and to serve light refreshments to those attending the burial service. Please contact the Church office at (256) 753-2704 to request this ministry. TapeThe Sunday Morning worship service is recorded each week on cassette tape. Copies are made and the tapes are distributed by volunteers to shut-ins and homebound members of the community. A tape can be provided weekly by request to the Church office at (256) 753-2704. |
